Obstacle Mud Runner - Issue 7

ForEliteAtheletes to FunRunners 9 who are we? RACE : OMR RACE TEAM 01732 452404 No other sport comes close to the unity and support you get from others whether racing or running for fun I love coming up to an obstacle with friends and watching them get across it because that fear they have is the same fear we all have I always enjoy seeing what quirky man-made obstacles have been invented and have a good chuckle at myself thinking of the madness of it all Photo: Rosanna Kuit Photo: OCRWC 1 This is me: STUART NEAIL 2 Age and occupation: Age 41, Retail Project Manager and “Live feed King!” 3 How many races have you done? 100+ races. Started in 2015 with NY Resolution of 1 a month, did 22 that year! 4 Favourite race of all time : Wow that’s a toughie! Probably Germany Euro Champs, keeping my wristband was my biggest achievement on such a tough course. After that it would be Toughest, I love their race set up and obstacles. 5 Best bling/headband: That would have to be World Champ medals, but always loved Scorpion Run medal, quirky Scorpion shaped with pincers as a bottle opener! 6 What do you love about OCR? It may be cliche but literally love the OCR family/community. I’ve made life long friendships in that mud! 7 Any pre / post race ritual you simply can’t live without? Minimum 2 x Pre race Poo’s, and always a Maccy D’s sausage & egg mcmuffin for brekkie! 1 This is me: TOM WILSON 2 Age and occupation: 30, Police Officer. 3 How many races have you done? Approx 70 4 Favourite race of all time : Hard decision, top 3 are Nuts, Spartan or Toughest. 5 Best bling/headband: UK Champs medal from 2015. 6 What do you love about OCR? It’s a fun way to de-stress and keep yourself fit at the same time whilst meeting people who share similar interests. 7 Any pre / post race ritual you simply can’t live without? I drink a bottle of coke after any race involving water (may be a myth but works for me) 1 This is me: ROBERT BOARDER 2 Age and occupation: 40 years young. I’m an IT Engineer 3 How many races have you done? 40 ish 4 Favourite race of all time : OCREC 2017 5 Best bling/headband: Spartan 6 What do you love about OCR? It’s a great all round test of athletic ability whether you’re looking to compete, or a really fun day out to run a course with friends. 7 Any pre / post race ritual you simply can’t live without? You can’t beat a nice post race cup of tea! 1 This is me: LINDA JOHNSON 2 Age and occupation: Age 39, Managing Director of mine and my husbands company Mintgbstamps.  3 How many races have you done? Roughly 38, inc UK champs x2, World’s x2. 1 marathon and 2 half marathons and superhuman games x2. 4 Favourite race of all time : The Suffering 10k was one of my favourite races – it’s where I very first started and fell in love with OCR. 5 Best bling/headband: My bands from the OCRWC  last year – 3 races, 3 bands. I worked so hard. 6 What do you love about OCR? Odd as it may sound, it’s seeing other people complete obstacles for the first time. I have all the time in the world for other people and even if I’m racing I promise you, regardless of what course we are on, I will always offer you a hand, advice or a pair of gloves (OMRM editor can vouch for that!) . 7 Any pre / post race ritual you simply can’t live without? Pre race ritual – if I’m racing I always wear ORCA killa compression leggings – they’ve always helped reduce the fatigue in my legs. Second is food - protein porridge every day with honey regardless of what I’m doing, lots of water every day and a banana right before I race. Doesn’t matter where in the world I am – I have to have my porridge, honey and banana. 1 This is me: LAURA HEYWOOD 2 Age and occupation: Age 43, Firefighter. 3 How many races have you done? Around 30 4 Favourite race of all time : Make-a-wish charity race at 2017 World Championships, dressed as a cheerleader in typhoon-like weather. 5 Best bling/headband: The horse brass from my first ever OCR – Tough Guy. 6 What do you love about OCR? I love the sense of achievement you get when you overcome the more challenging obstacles but mostly I love playing around outdoors with whatever natural obstacles might be presented to me. Madness that seems to make perfect sense. (If that makes sense?) 7 Any pre / post race ritual you simply can’t live without? I don’t think i have any pre or post race ritual, just a lot of faffing and loo trips!
