Obstacle Mud Runner - issue 15

25 RESET: WOLFPACK charity that redistributes surplus food that would otherwise go to waste to charities that turn it into meals. We loved this dual purpose and donating to them is very tangible as every £1 donated converts to 4 meals that they are able to provide for those who need it. HOW DID IT GO? In our eyes the event was an overwhelming success going way beyond our expectations. The community rallied and got behind the idea with the OCR family being the first to jump on board (as they always do). The weather was very kind to us. Those who went out at night were greeted with the stars shining and an incredible full moon and the weekend was sunny and warm during the day. In all we had 95 Lone Wolf finishers each running 100K, many doing so for the first time. There were also wonderful stories of many in teams running their first 10K, half-marathon, marathon or ultra marathon distance. Lots of the solo runners and teams also set up their own fundraising pages to support FareShare or other good causes close to their hearts. In the midst of a global pandemic it was great to see families, friends, sports teams and even people who had never met come together despite not being able to do it in person. Perhaps a bad choice of words right now, but this energy was infectious. We had lots of feedback that while it was a virtual event it felt like a real world event. People loved the atmosphere of the weekend, the camaraderie of the virtual community and the celebration of everyone’s achievements. On a personal level the weekend was very rewarding for us and we loved seeing all the adventures unfold. On our side the kids had loads of fun running with their school team virtually (parents and children ran over 500K) and Harsha organised a local COVID secure weekend relay around our village. I ran my first 100K in 9 hours 38 minutes. I may have gone a tad far for some goal accountability, but it was well worth it! WHAT NEXT? The next Wolfpack 100 is planned for March 19th- 20th 2022. It will be a virtual event with a twist that we believe will create something truly special again. Entry is currently just £10 per person for the first 100 people who register and will be in aid of FareShare once again. The collective aim is to run around the world in less than 48 hours. We also have a number of additional challenges planned throughout the year. All our challenges are designed to push the individual, while also being suitable for all levels.
