Whether you’re an avid OCR fan, or a newbie who didn’t get the chance to attend the 2018 event, 2019 promises to be bigger and better, and will offer something for everyone. There’s huge prestige attached to this event, running for its 6th year, with athletes battling it out across four competitive races over 3 days. The OCRWC is the only independent world championships with the very best athletes travelling from across the world to see who will be crowned champion. Spread over a long weekend from 11th to 13th October, the OCRWC is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Obstacle Course Racing. But don’t be fooled by the name, this event isn’t just for the pros. The weekend hosts 5 events, 4 of which are competitive; the 3km short course, perfect for those who prefer a bit of speed. The 15km ‘Classic’, the original format longer event, the team event, where 3 individuals partner up to tackle three disciplines; Speed, Strength, and Technical, before crossing the finish line together. For the first time ever, this year at the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships, we will see the debut of the 100m sprint course, which promises to be fierce, fast, & furious. An amazing spectacle for those watching, and a thrilling competition amongst the worlds best athletes where they battle on a totally different type of course. The final, and often favourite event is the Sunday 7km “open”, this event as the name suggests, is open to anyone who wishes to run. It can be taken on in groups, or solo, in fancy dress, or you can use it as an opportunity to test yourself on the obstacles and get some sneaky practice in. It’s perfect for those who want to introduce their families and supporters to the OCRWC, and with entry starting at 13 years it’s a great introduction for your littler ones. The event itself is like nothing you’ve seen before.
