hang-out or take part... 01732 452404 ForEliteAtheletes to FunRunners 33 RACE : TRAINING The Lion’s Den It is a training facility for all abilities to come and train, test themselves, hang-out with friends or take part in our challenging Time Trial Series – A short, fast, obstacle heavy course which tests every runners’ ability when you are tired and under pressure. So, on the 1st December 2018 a handful of people took on the first ever Lion’s Den Time Trial event. The weather was awful so that in itself added an extra challenge. It was a great day with many lessons learnt by all. On March 30th 2019 the Spring Time Trials took place. I listened to feedback from the first event, added a short run around part of the field at the start, amended the penalty system to make it fairer and devised an easier way for the marshals to record each runners score. The sun was shining and a good mix of ability runners had arrived to take on the course, which was totally different to before. Each runner has to arrive early enough to sign in and familiarise themselves with the course and more importantly the obstacles before a short briefing is given. Each runner gets to run two separate laps, the second being harder than the first. The fastest four from each gender then progress to a final and more challenging third lap. The top three of each gender from this final then get awarded trophies. The atmosphere was great, everyone was so supportive to all the runners and we even had some of the youngsters from RAW Pride racing against the adults. The time trials put runners under pressure when their bodies are tired. There are a forever growing variety of obstacles on the course from the rope climb, farmers carry, weaver, rings, monkey bars, a technical rig, low rig, walls... to name a few. Top three males and females from Spring are: MALE: 1st – Jason Wright (HY Altitude) 2nd – John Howard (Mud Monsters) 3rd – Mark Storey (RAW) FEMALE: 1st – Laura Heywood (OMRM) 2nd – Josie Nye (Elements Elite) 3rd – Holly Blackman (Pride) Well done to everyone who took part, we look forward to welcoming more people down to the Lion’s Den .
